Continuing Education

Hailing from an entire family of teachers and educators, Dr. Courtney’s educational path started informally in his hometown. With acres of sylvan charm, Dr. Courtney was able to explore and discover the rich diversity of wildlife in his own backyard.  His formal educational path started at the University of Delaware, after which he attended Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine, where he served as Vice president of his class, and graduated in 2005. Throughout his academic journey, Dr. Courtney was steadfast in his focus towards becoming a veterinary surgeon. To achieve board certification in veterinary surgery, he completed three one-year internships all across the country, and then completed a three-year surgical residency in small animal surgery in Los Angeles,California. This makes him one of the only DVM’s with a national media platform who is also formally credentialed in veterinary surgery.

The appeal of veterinary surgery has always been its all-encompassing nature and its ability to restore and save lives. The practice of veterinary surgery incorporates every aspect of the medical field and requires a fundamental understanding of the basic and advanced sciences. However, at the core of veterinary surgery is empathy.  From pet parents, to animal lovers, to animal enthusiasts, what unites us all is a deep and abiding affection for animals. Essentially, when Dr. Courtney hears you say ‘I love my pet…” he knows exactly how you feel. Committing himself to pet health and wellness has been the honor of Dr. Courtney’s lifetime.
